Glenn Mayeda Jr., the bassist of the group, is a 1996 graduate of the Kamehameha Schools. Currently a resident of Kapolei, Glenn and his wife, Kalele, have one daughter and one son. He earned a B.ED. in Music at UH Manoa. Glenn has been teaching in the DOE as a Music Teacher for the last 7 years.
Glenn and Kalehua are cousins and have a long relationship in music. As far back as the sixth grade, Kalehua began to teach Glenn how to play the ‘ukulele. Glenn claims that he couldn’t “pick” as well as Kalehua so he switched to the guitar. Then he met Kamuela and switched to bass. He has previously studied classical guitar in college, studied bass with Nedward Kaapana, and has played with Ledward Kaapana from time to time. His musical interest is everything Hawaiian, with an appreciation of all other types of music. His musical influences are The Hui Ohana, The Brothers Cazimero, Gary Haleamau, and Sonny Chillingsworth, just to name a few. Besides the bass, guitar and ‘ukulele, he also plays a little piano and steel guitar.
Besides music, Glenn enjoys spending time with his wife and kids, traveling, lifting weights, training his two dogs and maintaining Pilioha’s business affairs. Recently, Glenn has taken up another hobby as a beginning Audio Engineer and has began studying this new craft with Aaron Ka‘onohi and Dave Tucciarone.
